Over the weekend, I received a box of my book, Hills of Wheat, from the publisher.  As I was sitting there, staring at the books on my counter, I thought, “Why do I need these copies?”

I quickly did a Facebook contest, letting people post to a thread if they were interested in receiving a copy. Throughout the night, I’d ask my husband then my children for a random number and whichever person corresponded to that number was a winner.

Giving away copies of my books makes me happy. I like to receive free things so why not give free things? I hope to keep doing more of that.  But, in order to do so, I need you to befriend me on Facebook (

I was sad to read that some people felt that contests like these were “scams” or “setups”. If people feel that way, that means that there are unscrupulous people out there who DO misuse contests.  Or, perhaps more likely, it just feels that way. I know that I get discouraged from time to time because I enter contests and don’t win. But when I do win (rarely), I feel like a million bucks!

Unfortunately, I can’t send free books to everyone…I wish I could.  But I have to pay for the books and the postage myself.  So, I do what I can when I can. I’m glad that I was able to do so this weekend!  🙂

Anyway, I’m happy to let everyone that Nancy Carney, Carolyn Wiens, and Bonnie Denny Schoeneman won copies of Hills of Wheat. I’ll be sending them out as soon as I receive their mailing address. By the way, these books are going to be collector’s items because they are with the original cover…which has just recently changed!  Sherry Bullock also will be receiving a free copy of Fields of Corn. Congrats to all!

  1. I think it’s wonderful that you have these book give away contest. We all have the same chance to get a free book. And you have a large following so we know that not everyone can get a book. I for one am please that you do this when you don’t have too. You are a very kind Lady. God’s blessing on you.
