This past weekend was gorgeous, a perfect weekend for working in the yard or going horseback riding. I had made lots of plans, especially for Sunday. However, plans are not always cast in stone as I quickly discovered when I woke up Sunday morning. God has a way of reminding us that we are not always in control of our lives.
Over a cup of coffee, I was visiting with Sparrow, my best friend who moved up from Florida to live with us. Back in January, we had been visiting Lancaster County and, while at an Amish food store, Sparrow rescued a small kitten that had been abandoned a few days earlier. The kitten was huddled against the tire of a parked car and was just about to get crushed when Sparrow raced over, banging on the hood of the car, and lifted the kitten from underneath the wheel.
We named that kitten Gracie and, after verifying that it was indeed abandoned, brought her home to live with us.
Gracie is an indoor cat. But that doesn’t mean that she doesn’t like to dream about the other side of the front door. On Saturday, somehow she managed to pull a ninja move and escape to the great wild outdoors.
Which brings us back to Sunday morning….
